Project Background
Project Summary
The Niagara Power Corridor project is the development of a new double circuit 230 kV transmission line and substation along the St. Lawrence Seaway. The new line and substation will supply power to a new Electric Vehicle (EV) battery separator manufacturing plant, planned by Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada Corporation in Port Colborne, Ontario.
The South Niagara region is experiencing strong and growing demand for industrial-scale power, and the Niagara Power Corridor will help to address these needs in the region. Initially, the transmission line will provide 118MW of power for the Asahi Kasei site, with additional capacity for potential future expansion to support medium- and longer-term power needs in the region.

We believe and understand that consultation and collaboration lead to a better project, enriched by the knowledge, perspectives, and understanding of all engaged communities.
Purpose and Benefit
The proposed transmission line is designed to initially deliver 118MW to support the publicly announced battery separator plant, being built by Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada Corporation. However, due to the transmission line’s strategic placement and the fast growing demand in the area, the project is being developed with consideration of a potential future role in support of the broader electricity system and the needs of area business and residential customers.
Constructing the transmission line will not only meet the immediate energy requirements of the Kasei Battery Separator plant, but would also result in broader economic prosperity in the Port Colborne and the wider Niagara region through job creation, promoting infrastructure development, facilitating industrial expansion, attracting investment, integrating renewable energy and improving resilience. This project therefore would cultivate a favourable business environment and elevate living standards, laying a solid foundation for sustained socioeconomic advancement in the area. The project also aligns with local, provincial and federal objectives for electrification and broader expansion of transmission infrastructure in Ontario.
Key Milestones
The project is targeted for energization by late 2027, pending necessary approvals. We recognize the need for increased power in the region, and efforts will be made to deliver it as quickly as possible while prioritizing environmental sustainability and community engagement.
